Chamber Overview
The World Trade Organization regulates global commerce.
Agenda Focus & Context
Addressing the Impact of Armed Conflicts on Global Trade Routes and Supply Chain Security
Geopolitical conflicts and maritime insecurity have severely disrupted global maritime chokepoints and trade corridors, such as the Red Sea, the Black Sea, and the Strait of Malacca. These disruptions lead to skyrocketing freight costs, shipping delays, and food and energy insecurity. The WTO must address the economic impact of these conflicts, the role of national security exemptions under Article XXI of the GATT, and strategies to build resilient supply chains, support vulnerable economies, and ensure the unhindered flow of essential goods.
